Cruz set to make immediate impact for men’s soccer

The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men’s soccer team and Head Coach Shane Bufano have tabbed another commitment for the 2019 season.

The most recent commitment for the Northern Vermont University-Johnson men’s soccer team comes from Marquiss Cruz. Cruz, a product of Portland, Oregon, is the first recruit in the men’s soccer 2019 class from the Pacific Northwest. Cruz was a member of the Sandy High School varsity soccer program and has been a 4-sport varsity athlete for most of his career. On the soccer pitch, Cruz had a fantastic final year with 18 goals for the Pioneers where he served as captain in the midfield. His offensive output earned him team awards of Most Valuable Player and Best Offensive Player at Sandy High School. In addition to playing soccer in the fall, Cruz was also a talented kicker for the football team at Sandy High School. Cruz has also competed at the varsity level in both track & field and tennis.

On the club circuit, he plays in the prestigious Timbers organization for the West Coast. He has competed for more than half a decade with the Eastside Timbers of the Portland area. His speed and goal scoring ability will be a major asset for the Badgers immediately. “We are extremely excited to have Marquiss here at Northern Vermont University-Johnson next season and open up a pipeline to the talent in the Pacific Northwest. He is an extremely versatile player and can play any forward, midfield or back position. His speed, versatility and goal scoring ability will help him contribute immediately.” Said Coach Bufano.

When arrived at NVU-Johnson, Marquiss Cruz will pursue a degree in Business Administration.
