Badgers XC competes in Vermont State Meet
LYNDONVILLE,Vt.- The Northern Vermont-Johnson men’s cross-country team competed in the Vermont State Meet on Saturday morning hosted by Northern Vermont University-Lyndon.
Kenneth Chandler(Morrisville, Vt.) was the top finisher on the men’s side for the Badgers. Chandler came in 40thplace and finished with a time of 36:22. Theo Trott raced in his first race of the year and finished with a time of 40:42. Richard Radcliff (Danbury,CT) finished 53rdoverall with a time of 42:09.
Coming in 56th and 58th were Kijuan Hurst who raced in his first race of the season and Sheldon Billings (Ossipee,NH).
Overall the Badgers finished in 7thplace. They will travel to SUNY Canton on Saturday, October 6 to run in the SUNY Canton Kangaroo Invitational.
Golf team wins big at Invitational
PAUL SMITH’S, NY- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men’s golf team won the 2018 Paul Smith’s Invitational on Saturday morning. The team placed first with a team score of 325. Senior David Albright (Grantham,N.H.) was first for all golfers with a personal score of 70.
The Badgers had four golfers finish in the top 20 for the tournament. Behind Albright’s stellar performance Austin Walters (Grantham,N.H.) finished in a tie for 5th place with a score of 82. Kaden Swett (Brownington,Vt.) finished with an overall score of 86 which gave him a tie for 14th place overall.
To round out the Badgers was Philip Lyon (South Burlington,Vt.) and Colin Compagna (Morrisville,Vt.).
Lyon finished in a tie for 17th overall with an 87 and Compagna finshed in 24th with a score of 93.
Men’s soccer falls to Eagles
JOHNSON-Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson men’s soccer team fell to Husson University in a North Atlantic Conference match up on Saturday afternoon. They fall to 1-2 in conference play.
1st Half:
The Eagles scored early in the first half with a goal by Dylan Bryce in the 4th minute of play. The goal was assisted by Joao Passoni. The Badgers had 7 shots in the first half but could not find the back of the net. Husson’s Ian Lee scored the Eagles second goal of the half in the 28th minute giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead headed into the second half.
2nd Half:
The Badgers came out hot in the second half as freshman Tristan Salgado (Essex, Vt.) scored the first goal for the Badgers in the 49th minute of play. The goal was assisted by sophomore Elliot Hanna (Milton,Vt.). Throughout the second half the Badgers searched for another goal but they could not find the back of the net. The Badgers had a total of 13 shots for the game, while Husson had a total of 16 shots.

Women’s tennis sweep Thomas
JOHNSON-Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women’s tennis team swept Thomas College in a North Atlantic Conference match on Saturday afternoon. The Badgers won by a score of 9-0.
Singles:
The Badgers were strong in singles play for the day. Grace Page (Bennington,Vt.) was dominate in number one singles. Page beat her opponent by a score of 6-1,6-0. In number two singles Mikayla Messier (Sheldon,Vt.) had a similar outcome. She won her singles match by scores of 6-0,6-1 over Thomas’s Samantha Mercier. Elizabeth Chitambar (Newport, Vt.) won by a score of 6-0,6-0. Sam Kershner (Essex,Vt.), Rebecca Simon (New Praque,MN) and Leah Gaboury (Saint Albans,Vt.) also came out victorious in their singles matches. The Badgers were 6-0 in singles play on the day.
Doubles:
Page and Messier started off doubles play for the Badgers. They beat Cassidy Hamm and Samantha Mercier by a score of 8-0. Kershner and Chitambar won their doubles match by a score of 8-0. Simon and Gaboury closed things out for the Badgers as they won by a score of 8-1.
With the win the Badgers improve to 4-5 overall.
Women’s soccer fall to Husson
JOHNSON-Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women’s soccer team faced off against Husson University in a North Atlantic Conference match up on Saturday afternoon. The Badgers lost to the Eagles by a score of 6-0.
1st Half:
Husson came out strong in the first half as Kathryn McGinnis scored in the 9th minute of play. The Badgers competed hard on both sides of the ball but had a hard time finding an offensive attack. Husson’s Bri Saulter scored one goal in the 15th minute and Joan Overman scored in the 18th and 24th minute of play giving Husson a 4-0 lead going into the second half.
2nd Half:
The Badgers had two shots on goal in the second half. Husson added to their lead with two goals in the second half. Mackenzie St.Pierre scored a goal off of an assist by Bri Saulter in the 59th minute of play and Alyssa Driscoll scored an unassisted goal in the 78th minute.
Goalkeepers:
Senior Kaitlin Boucher (Barre,Vt.) played the entire 90:00 in goal for the Badgers. Boucher collected 12 saves.
Up Next:
The Badgers will travel and play against Northern Vermont University-Lyndon in a Presidents Cup match up on Wednesday, October 3. The game will be held at Jay Peak Resort and will be the grand opening of the new turf field venue at Jay Peak.
